Took my boys to a skate session and because you had to wear helmets there wasn't a big turnout. Last year there were about 50 skaters, this year there was about 15. The skate night is provided by a church that puts out ramps and rails and skaters come to skate for free and eat hotdogs for free. But because they changed the rules this year making it that you have to wear helmets skaters just didn't like that. If you love to skate and you have no other place to skate why would you let a "helmet" keep you from doing what you like. Is it because helmets aren't COOL!

DACS is For Real

DACS has been getting a lot of emails about are you guys for real! They assume that because we do care so much about skaters and the sport that it must be a scam or something. But its For Real! Yeah we give away FREE stuff! We designed a site where skaters can input whatever they want drawings, pictures or just a comment. So anything that we can do to help out .. we try. We are just a small little business who one day hope to get bigger so we will be able to help more skaters.

So All Yall That Aren't Sure If DACS is Legit!!! WE ARE! And we hope to be around for a long time!

Can't Land With Both Feet on Your Skateboard?

Chickenfoot is a very common problem when skateboarding. You try an ollie or kickflip, but when you land, both feet won't land on the board. Maybe only one lands on the board, or maybe neither one. This a big problem for a lot of skateboarders. So how do you get over what is called chickenfoot? How do you land with both feet on your skateboard?

First, you should always be able to land at least one foot on your skateboard. If neither foot lands on your board, then either you are doing the trick completely wrong, or you are very scared. Being scared is normal in skateboarding - in fact, it's good! It shows that you are taking skateboarding seriously, and that you know that you can get hurt if you do something careless. However, you need to master that fear.

So practice until you land with one foot on the board. Pick a foot, and make sure it lands on your skateboard. If you can't do this step, then go back and start over with the trick you are trying - you probably aren't doing something right, and you need to work on form.

Most skaters have one foot already landing on their board, but the other one just refuses to land right. There are a couple of things you can try. The best thing is to just keep practicing, trying little things different here and there as you want to, until you land it right. But, for a lot of skaters, this is too frustrating and you can feel like you aren't getting anything done! I'd like to encourage you to stick with it, and get some help. But, there's another way you can try and fix the problem yourself:

Whichever foot you can land with, try and land with just the other foot on your board. Let the foot you could land with land on the ground. Aim for it to. And try to get your bad foot to land on the board. Once you get your bad foot to land on the board, then switch back to the good foot. Switch back and forth a little.

NOW, land with BOTH feet on the board. You can. If you can't, it's because you are scared. Being scared is normal, but you have to fight through it in skateboarding. If you can choose which foot to land on the skateboard, then you can choose to have them both land on the board at the same time. Does that make sense?

Of course, your problem might be something different as well. My best suggestion is to get someone else to watch you, and tell you what they think you are doing wrong. It's best if this person is a skater who you trust, but even if they aren't, they can still help you. Just ask them what they think you might be doing wrong, and see what they say. It can help.

Remember to relax, keep practicing, and have fun. If you get too stressed about it, then go try something else for a while. DO FORGET HAVE FUN
!

SHOES! What We Wear!

Hey want to know what shoes a DACS skater mom buys her boys and herself. Well DC's and Zoo York. Those are the only shoes we wear. For me as a mom I get Zoo Yorks because they are comfortable and they make my feet look small. But as for my boys they all wear DC's except the older one, he wears Zoo Yorks'. Of course we get them from our online store dacsskateshop.com. DC's have a lot of different designs and Zoo York Shoes have different styles. We ordered a pair of the Chocolate DC's but my son tried them on outside and they didn't fit so we are stuck with them...so we are going to open a DACS Thrift Store so whenever our shop has products that we have no use for we are going to sell them for thrifty prices...

Tired of It

I'm tired of going to the skate park and seeing other skaters not respecting the skate park or other skaters. I took my boys to the skate park and there were kids there showing off while cursing and peeing inside the skate park. So what, you think your skating skills are good respect the skaters that are just trying to get better at theirs. I can't stand cocky skaters. And when they hogthe skate park and tell me to move so they can show off and get in the way of my other skaters that makes it worse. The skatepark is for EVERYONE. My son was teaching me how to skate and one of the skaters said "move I want to do something" (rudely). That just made my whole skating experience not fun atall... it made me see how people can view skaters as disrespectful and not wanting them in the community. But since I have 4 boys that love to skate I think of the good positive skaters that respect their fellow skaters and are willing to teach another if he sees one just learning. You never know who is watching. It could be someone wanting to sponsor you or maybe a skate shop owner rewarding you with skate gear for just being a positive skater. It's the negative skaters who are getting skateboarding banned and looked upon as being unimportant to society. So to all you skaters who are acting like jerks, getting skate parks closed and "NO SKATEBOARDING signs put up. Thanks a lot.
